automotive safety by Renault

Data sharing, crash tests, full-scale emergency drills; Renault is committed to reducing the number and severity of accidents.

Our Human First Program, developed in collaboration with researchers, experts and firefighters, has only one objective; to improve the safety of all road users every day.

In 2025, Renault takes safety a step further with the universal patent initiative by opening its safety patents to competitors.

a unique partnership

Within the framework of the Human First Program, Renault has joined forces with the Naudet brothers, producers of award-winning documentaries about 9/11 and the Notre Dame fire, to highlight the extremely close collaboration between Renault Group and the road safety teams. This alliance between engineering and R&D constitutes an amazing adventure dedicated to “the golden hour”, the precious minutes when rescue workers have a greater chance of saving lives.

firefighter training

The only manufacturer in the world to have appointed a full-time firefighter to engineering and the only one to collaborate regularly with road safety teams, Renault has donated more than 4,000 vehicles to the fire service and has developed courses to train more than 5,000 firefighters from 21 countries worldwide in only a few years.

what is an adas?

Advanced driver assistance systems are intelligent systems that rely on advanced technologies (radars, software, cameras, etc.) to assist drivers on the road. Most ADAS work without human intervention, like autonomous emergency braking systems. All new Renault vehicles are fitted with advanced driver assistance systems4.

three types of adas for safe driving in any conditions

Advanced driver assistance systems are divided into 3 categories; safety, driving and parking. Their purpose is to enhance user safety and comfort while reducing the risk of a serious accident.

driving

The various technologies make driving simpler and safer, for greater peace of mind.

parking

Parking aids make manoeuvring easy, enhance safety and protect your vehicle and your surroundings.

safety

Intelligent driver assistance systems analyse driving conditions, warn the driver of any risks and take action if danger is imminent.

what is the Fix4Sure solution?

Created by Renault, the “Fix4Sure” solution belongs to the list of passive safety equipment. This device is based on a special seat frame design as well as a low position of the seat buckles. This prevents what is known as “submarining” in the event of a head-on collision, whereby the pelvis slides under the lap belt, compromising the more delicate abdomen.

R-129 "i-size" standard, apdated to the size of the child

The R-129 (or i-size) standard, launched in July 2013, enhances the safety of children in cars by imposing the Isofix attachment system, classifying seats according to the size of the child rather than their weight, and extending the mandatory period for rearward-facing installation (15 months and 80cm minimum). This standard will replace the R44 standard. Seats that comply with this new standard have been designed to protect against head-on and side impacts using latest generation test dummies.

the future of safety at Renault

Renault’s road safety policy is broken down into 5 areas; raise awareness, prevent, correct, protect, and rescue. Innovations are constantly emerging, for instance the Safety score, the Safety coach, and the Safety guardian, which are set to revolutionize safety at the wheel. More information coming soon.
